OUR HISTORY

Early in 2019 there were over 700 members on our Facebook page - Lansdowne-Aldan Alumni. This was obviously enough of an indication that Alumni wanted to stay connected.  So in March of that year, the Lansdowne-Aldan Alumni Association filed with the IRS as a Social Non Profit.  We formed as a mission driven, board governed group and have expanded from getting together a few times a year at the local bar to a group with 'giving back' at it's mission.

Through member dues and funds, at least two $1000 scholarships are awarded to graduating William Penn School District seniors planning to attend post secondary schools.  And we've established sustainable goals for supporting other initiatives that improve the life in our home town communities such as Interfaith food cupboard, the Nile Swim Club free swimming program, Toys for Tots and others. Our collective contributions total approx $10,000 each year.

We also maintain an Alumni Hardship fund to help with unpaid medical equipment co-pays or other short term difficulties.  We have a commitment from Alumni Russ and Vicki Rowan Carlson to cover the costs to maintain the fund at $1,500 each year.

Annual dues are only $25.  We ask members to consider an additional donation to cover operating costs, if possible. We now have nearly 200 members ranging from the class of ‘46 to ‘90, all seeming to share the same sentiment.  Good or bad, we are who we are because of our connection to that school district community and, being grateful for having learned “The Art of Living Well”,  we will remain connected by paying a little back to a community that has much less than we did.
